National Capital Orchid Society Annual Rain-or-Shine
Regular June Meeting and Picnic!
Sunday, June 26, 2016
3:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Same venue as last year! North Chevy Chase Christian Church
8814 Kensington Parkway, Chevy Chase, MD 20815
The June meeting will again be combined with the picnic, at the same location as last year. Events will include the monthly show table, supervised by Gordon Slaymaker, and the traditional picnic auction in place of a speaker with Eric Butler as auctioneer.
How to get there: From I-495, take Exit 33 onto Connecticut Avenue, North (direction, Kensington). At the first traffic signal beyond I-495 (1 block), turn right onto Beach Drive. At the first 4-way stop sign, turn right onto Kensington Parkway. Pass under I-495 and continue several blocks to the Church (on right). Turn right just before the Church and follow signs to parking lot and from there to the Community Room.
Picnic, show table and auction will be in the AIR CONDITIONED Community Room and/or the adjacent patio.
Schedule of events:
2:00 - 3:00 PM, room and show table set up (Come early - Help out!);
3:00 – 5:00 dinner, show table and swap table;
5:00 - 6:30 – auction;
6:30 – 7:00 clean up
Members' Auction NCOS Members can bring awarded or in-bloom plants to raise money for themselves and NCOS. Members receive 70% and NCOS receives 30% of the winning bid
NCOS Auction: NCOS will also have donated plant divisions to auction off, so bring your bidding spirit—and your checkbook! NCOS retains 100% of these bids, and it’s a great way to raise funds for the Society! Not to mention that the auction proceeds pay for the picnic!
Show Table: Exactly as it would be set up at the Arboretum
Swap table: Have an out-of-bloom or non-awarded plant you’d like to swap for another?? Maybe some fertilizer, extra potting stakes, or other orchid paraphernalia? Bring it along too. We’ll have an “orchid swap” for those interested.
Food and drink: NCOS will supply beef hot dogs, bratwurst, pulled pork barbecue, hamburgers, soft drinks & bottled water, and dry goods. Each member/family is asked to sign up to provide a dish to share: chicken, fruit, salad, a side dish, dessert, etc.
To help plan and organize this event we’re asking everyone interested to RSVP and indicate the type of dish you plan to bring. Please fill out the form (in the attached document) or provide the requested information in a brief e-mail note and send it to Jerry Rice (firstname.lastname@example.org) -- or leave a message at (301) 986-0659. RSVP is not necessary to attend, but it certainly helps us to plan.
